Neck pain is increasingly becoming a problem for people thanks to our expanding technological society. Here are just a few statistics about neck pain.

  • Neck pain ranks in the top 5 disorders in the United States, with 10-20% of people reporting incidents of neck pain.
  • Studies show neck pain impacts your physical, social, and mental well-being.
  • Common causes of neck pain include cervical (neck vertebrae) dysfunction, muscle and tendon strains and sprains, osteoarthritis and herniated discs, and degenerative disc disease.
  • Chronic neck pain often called the stiff neck, an aching neck, or a crick in your neck, causes discomfort that lasts for days or weeks.
  • Neck pain often leads to and exacerbates, headaches.

Neck PainTreating neck pain with bodywork requires a comprehensive plan that addresses all the problems if it is to be effective. Like all musculoskeletal pain, neck pain is more complicated than, “It hurts here, so rub here.” Due to poor posture, our head is often pulled forward more than it should be. This usually produces pain in the back of the neck due to tight muscles. However, these muscles are overstretched tight, not short and tight. The muscles on the front of the neck become short and tight, making it challenging to keep the head upright as it should be. The first course of action is to loosen the front neck muscles so they stop bullying the ones in the back. This is addressing the problem, not the symptom. If these muscles are not worked on, neck pain will only temporarily feel better, it will never get better.

However, our symptoms have often been around for so long that they become secondary problems. There are many layers of muscles on the neck and many others that affect the neck by way of the shoulder blade and collar bone. Dysfunctions in these various muscles produce pain in different parts of the neck and difficulty moving in various ways. It’s important your therapist understands all these muscles and can thoroughly work on all the problems.

With a profound understanding of the unique difficulties that accompany neck pain, our skilled massage therapist is dedicated to curating a personalized treatment plan tailored to your individual requirements. Embark on a journey of healing through the art of therapeutic massage as we collaborate to reintroduce comfort, freedom of movement, and vitality into your daily life.
